OpenVMS version 8.4 introduces many new and modified features to the operating system. This two-day course presents the new and changed features of OpenVMS in four parts: User Changes, System Management Changes, Programming Changes, and Associated Product Changes. The primary focus of the course will be on system management-oriented changes.

This course is intended for those who need to understand the OpenVMS V8.4 differences at the user, system manager, and programmer levels.

Upon successful completion of this course, you should be able to:

Describe how to delete directory trees
Enforce per-process kernel thread limits Identify considerations for the use of >1TB volume limits
Enable the use of up to 16 parameters to a DCL command procedure
List new BACKUP features
Identify two methods for disabling XFC data cache
Describe changes to Operating Environment license implementation
Identify when paged dynamic lookaside lists (LALs) are advantageous
Enable the use of paged dynamic memory LALs
List new features of host based volume shadowing
List the general steps for creating an OpenVMS guest (vm) on HPVM
List the types of virtual storage options available with HPVM
Describe general characteristics of a guest (vm) on HPVM
List reasons for implementing clusters over IP
Describe how to enable clusters over IP
Describe how RADs are laid out on cell-based systems
Identify new SDA commands available in V8.4
Describe changes to malloc
Describe high precision time programming capabilities
Describe changes to TCP/IP and DECnet

Předpoklady

Students should have skills and knowledge with OpenVMS through v8.3. OpenVMS Fundamentals (U3716) or equivalent is required and depending on your role, other courses are highly recommended. OpenVMS System Management I (U3724) for system managers and OpenVMS v8.3 Programming Features (HE364) for programmers and engineers.
